Updated: Mar 9, 2021

Apple has launched its latest initiative under the $100 million Racial Equity and Justice Initiative. In the first Entrepreneur Camp for Black Founders and Developers, the company will accommodate teams and founders from 13 app companies.

The camps will help developers enhance their technical skills. They’ll additionally obtain insights and mentorship from the company leaders while gaining one-to-one support at a code level.

Participants in Apple’s entrepreneur camp

1. Adam Taylor, the sole developer and founder of the Black app. His innovation surfaces “multifaceted and culturally relevant news” for Black people.

2. David Bosun – Arebuwa’s B3am app utilizes machine learning and an iPhone camera to point out gym machines and their usage.

3. Abdou Sarr’s Film3D app aids users to capture 3D footage without using specialized equipment.

4. Aurelia Edwards, the CEO and co-founder of Nailstry, will also participate. Her company is the first marketplace to focus entirely on nail art and press-on nails.

5. The group known for The Peek Movies app and TV shows will also take part in the camp. The app allows users to recommend movies and TV shows to their friends and families. At the same time, the app shines spotlights from Black actors and creators.

Apple held the first Entrepreneurs Camp in 2019, where women developers and app founders attended.

Those participating in the program earned accolades, landed funding rounds, and grew their user bases and teams.

Apple announced the racial equity pledge in June last year. Along with the latest Camp, Apple announced plans to have its Developer Academy in Detroit. It also plans to have a learning hub for Historically Black Universities and Colleges in Atlanta.

As a celebration of Black History Month, the firm released the Apple Watch Black Unit Collection. The limited-edition Apple Watch Series 6 has inscribed words of “Black Unity.”

Moreover, it amplifies Black businesses, developers, artists, and creators in TV, News, Music, and App Store.
