Full transparency here. This recipe came from needing a shortcut for the day. I had these wings thawed in the fridge really for my husband. He worked overtime and I had to do something with them. Frying them or setting up the grill was not going to happen because my busy 2-year-old would not allow Mommy’s attention to be diverted for too long.
So, I came up with this recipe and it turned out great! The meat was tender and falling off the bone while keeping that smokey BBQ flavor. Here’s what I did:
Ingredients:
Chicken wings (I used whole wings)
Chili powder
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Smoked Paprika
Montreal Chicken Seasoning
Minced Garlic
BBQ Sauce (your fav or what you have on hand)
Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey Teriyaki Marinade
Olive oil
Season the wings with the dry seasonings and toss them up so they’re coated.
Add the olive oil and about ½ to 1 tablespoon of minced garlic to the pan and sear the chicken on both sides. Don’t cook them until finished. You just want to get skin a little browned before putting them in the crock pot.
I added 2-3 tablespoons of the marinade to the BBQ sauce. There is no measurement here. Some like it a little saucier. Just note that the sauce will not remain as thick as it would on the grill. (Don’t make BBQ wing soup.) I used maybe 1 ½ cups for a family sized package of whole wings.
Cook for 4-6 hours and that was it! I shocked myself on this one! Try it out, you may want to add it to your crock pot recipe stash.
