Joe Bidens Inauguration: Hope and Restoration for America

On a cold, crisp mid-morning with bursts of sunshine and snow flurries, Joe Biden became America's 46th President -ending the era of chaos and divisiveness.

At the beginning of his 21 minute - inaugural speech, 78-year-old Biden said, "This is America's day. This is democracy's day."

The power handover went on smoothly as Biden, and Kamala Harris, the 49th Vice President - the first woman, black and southeast Asia America to hold the country's second-highest office - were sworn into office.

The ceremony took place at the Capitol Hill building on Wednesday, January 20, at around noon.

Although it was awash with circumstance and pomp, the ceremony was a bit different.

Guests wore masks and chairs spaced out in adherence to the Covid-19 measures.

The National mall was almost empty because it lacked the typical inauguration crowds.

Despite all this, nothing could overshadow the moment as people from all walks of life looked forward to being part of this historical moment.

Although former Vice President Mike Pence attended the inaugural ceremony, former President Donald Trump, who was impeached for the second time, was nowhere in the vicinity.

The small audience mainly consisted of dignitaries, special guests, and family members.

Some well-known figures included former Presidents George Bush, Bill, Clinton, and Barack Obama and former first ladies Laura Bush, Secretary Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, House leadership, and bipartisan senate.

Although the ceremony was full of powerful prayers and noteworthy performances by Garth Brooks, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, and National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman, the event didn't shy away concealing the various problems facing the country.

Following the world novel coronavirus pandemic, almost 400,000 people have lost their lives in the United States.

During the ceremony, Joe Biden asked for a moment of silence to honor in their memory.

During his speech, Joe Biden promised to be the President for all Americans.

While Associate Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor swore in VP Harris using Thurgood Marshall's bible, those standing close to her cheered merrily.

The same mood was experienced during a virtual parade across America later in the day.
