KIM KARDASHIAN WEST: The Justice Project – The Overturning of the C-Murder Conviction

Updated: Sep 11, 2020

Kim Kardashian West and lawyer just do not seem to fit in the same sentence. However, she is making in trails with her new documentary, Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project.

In the Oxygen show she enters prisons and speaks to inmates and is basically trying to get justice for those she feels have been wrongly accused and who deserve a second chance or at least for someone to hear them out.

Kardashian West’s most recent Justice Project is C-Murder and the fact that she believes he was wrongly convicted of murdering a teenage fan back in 2002.

THE DETAILS

C-Murder is an American rapper who back in 2009 was convicted of murder as it is alledged he was involved in the fatal beating of a teenage fan. The beating and subsequent death of Steve Thomas took place at a night club in Louisiana and C-Murder was the main suspect.

Kim Kardashian West has now come along and is wanting to have this conviction overturned as she believes that he was wrongly convicted and believes in his innocence.

The 49 year old rapper has been serving a life sentence for the past 11 years.

Kardashian West really just wishes to unveil the truth of what happened on that fateful night and wants justice for Corey Miller (aka C-Murder), and have him return home to his family, after all this time in prison.

On probing deeper into the case, Kardashian West discovered that 2 of the jurors who were part of the 10-2 decision to convict Corey Miller felt they were pressured into making their decision.

NON-UNANIMOUS VS UNANIMOUS

At the time of Corey Millers conviction, the decision was a non-unanimous one and this was still allowed by law. However if the case was heard today, the decision would need to be unanimous in order for him to be convicted and sentenced (the law changed in April deeming non-unanimous jury verdicts unconstitutional.)

There is a lot more to this case and Corey Miller has been brought up on attempted murder charges previously, however this does not fully show that he could be capable of murder in its entirety.

Various things took place leading up to the conviction of C-Murder, including a first conviction in 2003 by a unanimous jury decision, but the Judge later found out that 3 of the jurors had criminal history.

The case was then reheard and that is when Corey Miller was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.

GOOD INTENTIONS

Kim Kardashian West has said she is wanting to explore becoming a lawyer, but for now she is an advocate for prison reform and wants to challenge the justice system in effect.

She definitely has good intentions and her heart is in the right place and for now she is doing good work. But will it be enough and is it something should be glorified on television? That remains to be seen.

At the end of the day, justice should be served by the guilty, but those who are not guilty and have been wrongly accused should also be given a voice, and if that is voice if Kim Kardashian West then so be it.

You can catch Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project on Oxygen 7PM E.T..
