I love a good kitchen hack! Anything to make my clean up and organization easier, I’m all for it. I have a few that have become part of my standard kitchen procedures handbook. Some I picked up along the way. Others I have put my spin on. Here’s a few:

Paper Towels to keep your salads fresh.

This hack has been used in my home for years. By placing a couple of paper towels on top of your leftover salads and leafy greens it will retain freshness a few days longer if stored in an air-tight bowl or freezer bag. Your greens will remain crisp and unwilted, and your salad fixings won’t be watered down. This is a great alternative for when the Salad in a Jar is not an option.

The Garbage Bowl

The garbage bowl is one of my favorite hacks for less mess. If anyone is a fan of Chef Rachel Ray, you have heard of the garbage bowl. It’s a bowl she keeps on the counter while cooking to dump scraps or garbage into so she doesn’t have to go back and forth to the trash can. Clean and less running in circles?! Yes, please. But I had to take it up a notch. Take one of your bathroom trash bags (you know the grocery store bags we all use) and use it to line the bowl. When you’re done tie up the bag and toss. Even less mess!

Breast Milk Bags and Berries

Ok, give me a chance here. After breastfeeding you're left with all the equipment. Pumps, carrying bags, bottles, and in my case a box of breast milk bags. These zip to seal bags are made to be sterile and freezer safe for milk storage. The box was unsealed so I was unable to donate it and didn’t want to waste the bags. One day I had a handful of blueberries leftover but only has gallon size freezer bags…until I looked over and saw the breast milk bags. I popped the blueberries in there and tossed them in the freezer to add to another recipe for another time. I’ve also used some of them for snacks like crackers or fish sticks to save room in my son’s diaper bag. So moms, when you come to the end of your breastfeeding journey, save your breast milk storage bags. They will come in handy later.
