It’s been one week since the NBA Restart and the Bubble has provided plenty of interesting situations as the remaining 22 teams play out the rest of the regular season. It is much too early to make any lasting conclusions but it is safe to say that this playing field remains wide open. Some teams have shown resurgence while others have struggled. Meanwhile, many young and unexpected players have begun to make an impact.
Here are the Top 5 Emerging Ballers
Grayson Allen - Memphis has a terrific young nucleus of players led by emerging superstar Ja Morant. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies just lost Jaren Jackson to an MCL tear so they will need Grayson Allen to step up. Last game, he went 6-8 from three point land but his squad has yet to win a bubble contest.
5) Shai Gilgeous Alexander - Although the Oklahoma City Thunder have experienced a lot of trades and exchanges throughout the past few seasons, this is one of their brightest young emerging superstars. Under the mentorship of Chris Paul, this young guard has begun to learn the intricacies of the point guard position from one of the best floor generals to ever play the game. Look for SAGA to lead his team into beneficial scenarios going forward.
4) Michael Porter Jr. - Some might say that the Denver Nuggets benefited most from the time off in the past months. Simply because MPJ - a prolific scorer is back to full strength. He has been scoring at will, running the floor well and clearly not ailing from his back injury. Alongside Bol, MPJ fills out an impressive roster that has depth, youth and a contender's mindset.
3) Bol Bol - This first year player was an absolute steal in the draft. Teams passed on him after he got injured early at Oregon, but his freakish athleticism has been proving scouts wrong. At 7’2 with a 7’8 wingspan, most of the things he can do on the court are unreal. His passing and shooting ability fit the new brand of NBA big men perfectly. Look for him to contribute to a stacked Nuggets roster.
2) Caris Levert - Hardly inexperienced, this young star has shone brightly in Brooklyn. His lengthy figure, start and stop ability and proclivity to finish in high traffic areas make him truly special. Earlier this season, he dropped 51 points against the Boston Celtics and continues to put up numbers during this new season as well.
1) TJ Warren - this man has been on a tear in the first week of NBA competition. He averaged 34 points per game on 65% shooting from the field as the Indiana Pacers have won first three of their first four games. After being traded from the Phoenix Suns for cash consideration, Warren has been out to prove his style of scoring can be efficient in the league. Since Domantas Sabonis has been out (foot) Warren has reaped the rewards of a small ball lineup. At the four spot alongside three guards and a center, the court has been opening up in ways unimaginable for TJW.
